The 2026/27 sesame trading season commenced on a strong note in May 2026, with Songwe Region leading the way as the first market to open. Farmers realized a high price of TZS 2,740 per kilogram in the same month, reflecting adequate market demand and the value of transparent price discovery.
Following the successful launch in Songwe, an additional 14 sesame-producing regions have conducted trading through the TMX Online Trading System. Across these regions, the platform has continued to facilitate a fair, transparent, and competitive marketplace, enabling buyers and sellers to participate in an efficient trading environment while ensuring prices are determined through open competition.
The positive start to the 2026/27 season underscores the continued role of the TMX Online Trading System in enhancing market access, promoting price transparency, and strengthening confidence among farmers, buyers, and other market participants across Tanzania’s sesame value chain.
